The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

Australia's chief selector the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Earlier indications from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in the WACA.

The selector shared that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about his chances of being involved.

"It's clear that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations at play, aside from the physical problem, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a key capacity. Hopefully from the opening match. If not, then we'll pick it up."

Injury History

He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons forcing him out of multiple domestic campaigns in a limited period.

He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to ensure his availability for the contest.

The selector indicated that it was unclear if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but conceded it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.

Contingency Plans

In case of absence, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.

The talented all-rounder was excluded lately from the national team for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.

The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and mentioned that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to take part for the initial game as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games in any case. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, should it hinder progress for another day, we opted to take a cautious route."
